Who are we? Time to meet us as a couple!

D kisses J on cheek

Ours is a story that had been waiting tobe written for many many years.

We both entered MIT in 1999, but never met in college or for many years after. By chance, in October 2013 (14 years later!!)  a common friend invited a few college alums out for drinks. We met this night and, quite honestly, barely talked and thought nothing of it.

New Years 2013-14

After that meeting we hung out a few more times in a small group of common friends, and we always had a blast and laughed hard together. Luckily, we were both part of a group that decided to spend New Year’s Eve 2013/14 together and with all the romance and fun surrounding that night we realized that our connection may be something more. (The picture above is from that 1st night, but before we made the transition from friends into something more.) Then, after a few nervous, exciting and silly dates, we were hooked!

we are engaged yay!

Fast forward to a little over 3.5 years later … One random week in August of 2017 Damian told me to pack my bag and be ready to go on Friday afternoon. He surprised me by driving us both up to Boston (my most favorite city in the world)! As Damian went to check in to the hotel, I stood patiently on the side with the bags, and heard the man at reception say “And congratulations on your engagement!” I then heard Damian reply “It hasn’t happened yet…” and just lost myself in laughter.

We both headed up to the room with uncontrollable cases of the giggles, but no mention of what I had heard. Damian suggested taking a walk in the Boston Common and as I was unpacking my suitcase I turned around to see Damian on one knee proposing – he was just too excited and couldn’t wait any longer! Of course I said yes and the night turned into a celebration of our love in an amazing city.

Moody wedding

We decided that after being in love for so long (and finding our way back to each other after a brief separation) we were just too excited and wanted to get married ASAP! We picked the date of February 10, 2018 and found a beautiful venue in New Jersey and locked it down. I’ll write more about the wedding later, but it was two days of joy, basking in and sharing our love with our nearest and dearest, and having just the best time!

Maldives deck

Now, since we still can’t get enough of each other, we’ve decided to embark on an 8-month around-the-world honeymoon. We started with 9 days in the Maldives to “whet our appetite”, which was fabulous in itself. Damian is so fortunate to work for a company that has allowed him to take a leave of absence for this once-in-a-lifetime trip and since I mostly freelance it worked out perfectly for our schedules.

So those are just the basics, more to come on the nitty gritty of who we really are, our travel styles, compatibilities and incompatibilities!
